This article will explore clear communication strategies that facilitate effective delegation of instructions and tasks in the field of nursing.

Communication should be seen as a skill in its own right. Baumann (2017) states that effective communication is about making sure that any complex messages are made simple and that you find the right way to communicate them. This is balanced by making sure that your message is received in the manner you intended. 

In real terms, communication is about giving clear instructions that are received and understood.  This can be a challenge, especially when our main aim is ensuring that patient safety is not compromised as we strive to operate in what is often a complex and challenging environment. 

As a nurse you are required to maintain The Code (Nursing and Midwifery Council, 2018). This will remain the focus for the article.
