Registered nursing associate – What’s next?

Nursing associates (NAs) have been registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council since 2019 and become part of the nursing family across all four fields, with currently over 10 000 registered NAs. While the NHS Long Term Plan set out ambitions to significantly increase the number of NAs in the UK, career progression and CPD options for nursing associates have not yet been researched and no frameworks to support these have been produced. Laura Smith, Nursing Associate, explains why this needs to be addressed and shares some practical suggestions based on her experience.
