Lower respiratory tract infections (adult and child)

The latest surveillance report, published by the UK Health Security Agency yesterday, shows that we are experiencing an early start to the flu season. A sharp increase in activity has been noted among children, as well as increases among other age groups in the wider community. As the influenza incidence is now above baseline and set to increase in the coming days and weeks, it is a good time to refresh your understanding of lower respiratory tract infections in children and adults.

Learning beyond borders: An international nursing placement in India

International placements give student nurses the chance to broaden their clinical experience and understanding of healthcare beyond familiar settings. In this article, Sabrina Elsa Feughouo and Gunjan Sing reflect on their one-month placement at Caritas Hospital and Institute of Health Science in Kottayam, Kerala, India, organised by the University of Salford. They describe how the experience deepened their clinical knowledge, strengthened their cultural awareness, and inspired personal and professional growth — reinforcing their appreciation of compassionate care as a universal principle of nursing.

Transforming nursing: A series on nursing leadership – Collective leadership

Leadership in nursing has a substantial impact on patient care and the wellbeing of healthcare professionals. In the fifth article of this series, Brian Webster and Geoffrey Walker OBE explore how collective leadership can benefit staff members and teams, as well as patients and organisations, while also considering the difficulties it presents in the complex structures of healthcare.
